School Initiatives
Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools.
Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland). Currently, Ballyhack National School is working towards achieving their fourth Green Flag based on the theme Travel.
Hurling 365 is an initiative that Ballyhack National School will be commencing in September 2022. Wee hope that this will promote our students interest in both GAA and general physical activity.
Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.

The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise them to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.

Once awarded, ASF remains valid for a period of 3 years, after which time schools are invited to re-engage with the process.

Every year, Ballyhack NS holds an Active Schools Week to promote physical movement. We hope to word towards achieving our first Active Schools Flag in September now that we have our own walking track on the school grounds.

The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises the individual efforts of primary to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being.

We are working towards achieving the Amber Flag. In response to this we promote wellbeing by using a range of resources and hosting a Friendship Week in the first term of each school year.
